Arrival by air

The city's international airport, Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport, provides excellent facilities and a wide variety of services. Its convenient location – just 4 km from the city centre – means transport to most destinations takes surprisingly little time.

GETTING TO THE CITY CENTRE

Bus no. 2 and tram no. 4 make the trip from the airport to the city centre and port approximately every 20 minutes and operate from ~6:30 am until midnight. Single journey tickets can be bought in cash from the driver for €2. The bus and tram depart from the airport's lowest level, down the escalator from the arrivals hall. The most central stop for the bus is Laikmaa stop on Laikmaa Street, between the Tallink Hotel and the Viru Centre shopping mall, attached to the Sokos Hotel Viru; for the tram, the central stop is Hobujaama next to the Viru Centre shopping mall on the same street. From there, the venue Creative Hub is about 10 minutes' walk away.

A taxi stand can be found just outside the arrivals hall. The fare from the airport to the city centre is about €5 to €10. Read more about Tallinn's taxis here.

Arrival by sea

Ships from Helsinki bring thousands of travellers to Tallinn's busy passenger port each day. There is an overnight ferry link with Stockholm and a semi-weekly cruise ship connection to St Petersburg. Large cruise ships stop in Tallinn from spring until autumn. Tallinn also welcomes visitors arriving with yachts. 

CONNECTIONS

Ferries cross the Gulf of Finland between Tallinn and Helsinki several times a day, covering the distance in roughly 2 to 3 hours. From late spring to late autumn, high-speed vessels also operate on the route, reducing travel time to just 1.5 hours.

Ferries between Tallinn and Stockholm depart every evening, with the trip taking approximately 15 hours.

All St Peter Line's cruise ships make a Baltic Sea circuit twice per week and can be used for one-way overnight travel from Tallinn to St Petersburg. A return trip is possible by bus or train. In some cases, continuing cruise passengers can stay in St Petersburg visa-free.

The world's largest cruise agencies have included Tallinn in their itineraries – the city receives over 300 calls per season, making it the third busiest cruise destination in the Baltic Sea region.

GETTING TO THE CITY CENTRE

Passenger terminals are located within walking distance of the medieval Old Town.
Bus no. 2 connects the port’s A-terminal to the city centre and airport, departing approximately every 30 minutes from 7 am until midnight. Tickets can be bought from the driver for €2. 
Tram no. 2 goes from the Linnahall tram stop either to the city centre or to the conference venue.
A taxi from the terminal to the city centre costs about €5 to €10.

If you want to avoid misunderstandings, you can ask the driver the approximate cost of the trip in advance. Make sure to specify whether the price is per ride or per person!

Arrival by bus

Two international bus lines offer connections to Tallinn from several other European cities. Regular routes connecting Tallinn with Riga, Vilnius and St Petersburg operate several times a day.

International and intercity buses arrive and depart via the Tallinn Central Bus Station (Tallinna Autobussijaam): Lastekodu 46, ph. +372 680 0900.

GETTING TO THE CITY CENTRE

From the bus station, take bus no. 17 or 23.
The tram stop is a few minutes' walk away, but from the Bussijaam stop you can take tram no. 4 to the city centre or no. 2 that will go on to the train station and conference venue.

Arrival by car

Tallinn can be reached by car on the highways from Latvia, or via the car ferries from Helsinki and Stockholm. From Latvia, take Via Baltica highway. Travellers crossing from Russia should prepare for more time at the border as they are entering the Schengen area.
